The Voi Church began on November 24th, 1985, founded by six brothers: Philip Kamau, Joseph Nyaga, James Miano, Daniel Mwangi, Stephen Gitonga, and James Kaminja, now known as The Voi Six. The initiative to plant a church in Voi was driven not by external invitation but by an inner calling from the Holy Spirit to bring men and women to Christ.
The first crusade, an open-air evangelism event, took place from March 28th to 30th, 1986, during the Easter holiday. Organized by the brothers from Nakuru, this event, named Explo-1986, was highly successful, leading many to Christ. Some of the earliest converts remain active members of the church today, while others have moved on.
A significant tent mission followed later that year, from October 10th to 19th, led by the Voi Six, Jesse Karanja, Bakari Suleiman, and others from Nakuru. These meetings had a profound impact on the town, leaving Voi forever changed.
After the Voi Six moved on, Bishop Philip Kamau assumed overall responsibility for the church and has led it since.
